Nevada Adoption

Nevada permits the following types of adoptions in addition to public adoptions:

Public

Public Adoptive Placement-Requirements:

• Nevada ICPC is unable to release a Nevada child for adoptive placement until a home study incorporating the information is received and reviewd by the office. In an  Independent adoption the birth mother must have an opportunity to review the information.

Adoption Assistance

Adoption assistance payments begin:

• After the adoption is finalized

Special Needs

Nevada definition of "Special Needs":

• In Nevada a Special Needs Child is generally defined as a child over the age of five years, a member of a sibling group,who needs to be placed together, and at least one of the children is age three years or older, has a diagnosed medical, physical, emotional, or mental disability or documented history of abuse/neglect requiring treatment intervention; or has documented factors in his/her background that places child at high risk for developing a condition requiring future treatment, oris considered difficult to place because of race. Additionally, children of any age who experience behavioral, developmental, physical or medical challenges, or disabilities are considered special needs.
